I fear the GLBT community is on the path to the Darkside

I can say this because I feel it's 100% true. Had Proposition 8 not passed in California, the GLBT community would not be nearly as up in arms about Obama selecting Rick Warren for his invocation as they are now.

The passage of Prop 8 was a severe body blow to the GLBT community that still hurts as badly now as it did over six weeks ago. I for one completely understand the pain. The passage of Prop 8 pretty much told the GLBT community that the American dream of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness was not for them. It was a bittersweet day for this country in that while one barrier was coming down a new one was built.

I've already posted in a previous thread why I thought it passed and where the GLBT can go from here.

But the Rick Warren situation has let it known that where construction and wisdom was suppose to happen in the GLBT community post-Prop 8, instead fear and paranoia has taken roost. They "FEAR" Prop 8's passage will lead the way to more extreme treatment. This, of course, causes them great "ANGER". Unfortunately, instead of helping to channel that anger constructively, gay rights and gay friendly websites are allowing (and even encouraging) the anger to fester and grow without focus. This unfocused anger soon mutates into "HATE". FEAR and ANGER are the common motivations hate organizations use for recruitment. (note: I'm not comparing gay rights organization to white supremacists, just giving an example). Ultimately, as hate grows, the cause for which you fight for begins to "SUFFER" because nothing good born of hate can properly grow.

Which ultimately brings me to this:



I see it happening. It's not pretty, and it threatens to destroy everything they've been working for. Hopefully, they will realize this before it's too late.

The Gays and Lesbians up in arms with Obama about Warren must now boycott Rachel Maddow

Just what the title says. Rachel has frequently acquainted herself (even invited to her show) a guy who once said that

"Homosexuality is “the love that will not shut up.”,

"civil unions are absurd",

"Gay pride equals moral decline and cultural decadence",

"AIDS is in effect what happens to people as a consequence of unnatural and immoral sex."

All of these quotes, and more, were said by MSNBC political consultant Pat Buchanan and can be found here.

Rachel Maddow has given this homophobic bigot an invitation to her show on several occasions. Rachel has called Pat Buchanan "smart and funny" and likes to talk to him. How dare she give such a slap to the face of the Gay/Lesbian and progressive community.

It's time to come down on her like people have come down on Obama for Warren. Giving a platform to such a vile homophobe is unacceptable, right? Right?

So now bad judgment equal homophobia?

I can understand the Gay/Lesbian community being upset over Rick Warren doing Obama's inauguration, but if you hear some "progressives" this now means he's a homophobe or condones homophobia.

I thought only right-wingers engage in guilt-by-association.

"If you followed the internal politics of evangelical and fundamentalist leaders, you’d see this for what it is—not an elevation of Warren, but a slap in the face of the old guard leaders like Dobson and LaHaye. They’ve been fighting to see who gets to be the spokesman for the movement, and lately it’s been a tie. Obama just broke it.

And let’s be clear, there is a difference between those groups. Warren may not be progressive on gay rights, but he’s been out front on a number of issues of global justice—traveling from Davos to Damascus, and working hard to get rank-and-file evangelicals invested in “creation care” environmentalism and the fight against global HIV/AIDS.

If he were put in charge of HHS or listened to on gay policies, I’d be pissed. But what Obama is doing here isn’t that.
