Now that every mean, racist, disingenuous, pile of crap fear monger you said about President-Elect Barack Obama to try to make him to lose in this election has ended in miserable failure on your part, it’s time to accept him as your president for the next 4 -8 years along with a few “New Rules” (mostly mine but some borrowed by Bill Maher)
1. You are not to undermine a president in a time of war. You cannot support the troops without supporting the president.
2. You are forbidden to try to make Michelle Obama into a racial stereotype like you tried during to campaign. She is the First Lady and should be treated with the respect she deserves.
3. Malia and Sasha Obama are totally off limits. Period. End of Discussion.(h/t Oliver Willis)
4. We are getting out of Iraq in the next 16-20 months. Deal with it. The American people have spoken and have decided we no longer want to continue spending $10 billion a month in Iraq while the Iraqi government sits on an $80 billion surplus. It’s time to spend that money in America.
5. You are expected to be the first to pound down any douchbag(s) who advocate any physical harm to President Obama.
6. If you love America like to claim to do, you will use whatever influence you have left to helping clean up the mess your good buddies has left in this country.
7. George Walker Bush going down as “THE WORST PRESIDENT IN AMERICAN HISTORY” is pretty much etched in stone. Therefore, you do not get to pretend he wasn’t one of you after defending this guy for 8 years. He’s yours. You own him and his legacy.
8. You do not get to trash John McCain and Sarah Palin now that they lost. They lost because they decided to kiss your collective asses and campaign using Rovian tactics. Thus, like Bush, you own them and their legacies.
I’m not foolish enough to believe you will follow any of these rules. But make no mistake; the American people will come down on you hard if you break any of them (especially the first 5).
This is a new America and we are heading in a direction we haven’t seen in the past 8 years. Forward. And the best thing you guys can do is one thing. Don’t get in our way.

Yes you’re here, yes you’re queer, but we should get used to it because……?
Now that it has finally started to soak in somewhat that a black man named Barack Hussein Obama will be the next president of the United States of America, I’m starting to notice other things going on in this country of ours.
The big one is the gay/lesbian community getting upset over California’s Proposition 8 (which puts a state constitutional ban of same-sex marriage) passing this election cycle. In particularly, that according to exit polls, 7 out of every 10 African Americans who voted in California voted FOR Prop 8.
Before I get into why I think Prop 8 passed and my opinion of arrogant complacency in the gay/lesbian community as a whole, let tackle the whole “Let’s blame the blacks” trend that seems to be happening. This article pretty much shoot this belief straight to hell (Summary: If every African American who voted in California had voted NO on Prop 8, it still would’ve passed by at least 80,000 votes thanks to every other race and ethnicity who voted FOR it.)
Now back to the topic at hand. The title of this blog post is based on the gay rights chant “We HERE! We’re QUEER! Get used to it.” Rather self-explanatory and in my opinion a very arrogant saying. As a heterosexual person, why do I have to “get used to it”? No gay/lesbian group has as of yet been able to explain in a simple manner why straight people should “get used to” the homosexual lifestyle. As Morgan Freeman as Joe Clark once shouted, “I don’t have to do nothing but stay black and die” (I’m black BTW). One can easily interpret “get used to it” as “you’re going to accept my lifestyle and beliefs whether you want to or not” and that the problem.
That’s why the Prop 8 supporters won in my opinion. They made it a culture issue when it’s actually a civil rights issue. They spent a lot of time and money hitting home that gays are trying to enforce their beliefs and lifestyle on other people. Whether the tactics they used were true or false, legitimate or deceptive, the point is they did a good job of it.
But most important was that the opponents of Prop 8 did a piss poor job at explaining their case to the California voters. Whether it was out of arrogance, complacency, or both, they felt they didn’t need to do the work to make sure it didn’t pass. It was only after it was discovered the proposition gained support did they mount a half-assed job to defeat it. But again, they didn’t hit home that it was a civil rights issues. They believed none of the black churches would allow them to speak to their congregation about the issue. They didn’t even try. Imagine if they sent some gay African Americans representatives to these churches with a well spoken civil rights argument to oppose Prop 8, and then did the same except to the churches of the other ethnic groups. Things would’ve turned out a lot different IMO.
But they did none of those things. So what happened? When it was announced that Prop 8 passed, it basically punched them in the stomach and knock them to the floor. When they eventually caught their breaths, they stood up and “what the fuck just happened?!” Bewilderment soon gave rise to anger and it was at this time that the exit pools released and they saw that big whopping 7 out of 10 support of Prop 8 by African American voters. This caused some to forget that there are such creatures as African American gays/lesbians and go racial hate crazy.
But I am aware this is merely a case of misplaced anger and rage similar LA Riots as a response to the first Rodney King verdict. Once they get it out of their systems, they’ll realize where the real blame lies (I hope).
And hopefully now, they know how to better sell their cause to the rest of us.
